That’s according to Steph Habif, a behavioral scientist and health IT entrepreneur. In addition to that rather sobering statistic, Habif cites her own experience as a Columbia University doctoral student trying – and failing rather quickly – to develop an exercise tracker as the backdrop for some advice she’d like digital device developers to heed. “Know your humans,” she says for starters. “Understand the people you are designing for before you build anything. User research sheds light on how, when, and why people behave.”
