Article Excerpt: Recent studies demonstrate that health care providers are increasingly interested in mobile, home-based monitoring devices. This interest is fueled by the hope that personal data collection will help reduce costs and improve health outcomes. Health care providers still face significant barriers to adoption, however, including provider’s distrust of patients taking their own measurements and their own unwillingness to sort through a constant stream of data. Nevertheless, the development of these mobile technologies offers significant potential in the realm of early detection and behavioral intervention.
