Article Excerpt: Due to the NSF-funded work of University of Missouri researchers, an aging American population could soon benefit from remote-monitoring technology designed to support longer independent living. The research combines the use of sensor-based measurement tools and algorithms to provide early detection of adverse events that could lessen functional ability. The sensors have been used to detect and/or manage congestive heart failure, urinary tract infections, strokes and other medical disorders.
