About the Presenter: Deborah Hasin, PhD, is Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University, where she directs the Substance Abuse Epidemiology Training Program and the Substance Dependence Research Group. Dr. Hasin has published over 400 papers; her studies have been funded by NIAAA and NIDA since 1990. Dr. Hasin’s research addresses time trends in drug and alcohol use and consequences, including substance use disorders; effects of state marijuana laws; validity of DSM-5 definitions of alcohol/drug disorders; and efficacy of interactive technologies (e.g., smartphone applications) to enhance brief interventions targeting drinking and drug use. Dr. Hasin has participated in World Health Organization studies, the NIAAA National Advisory Council, and the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-5 Substance Disorders Workgroup, is on the CPDD Board of Directors, and will be President of the American Psychopathological Association in 2019-2020.
