Filipe Barata, ScD
Senior Researcher at ETH Zurich
Core Director for AI & Digital Biomarker Research in the
Center for Digital Health Interventions
About the Presentation: Digital biomarkers foster balanced well-being by continuously and objectively monitoring health data from digital devices, enabling early detection, proactive measures, and promoting optimal health while preventing extremes. In this talk, we will present examples from our research on digital biomarkers in applications from primary to tertiary prevention, focusing on biological and behavioral markers using audio and accelerometry data. We further present CLAID, our novel cross-platform middleware framework for data collection, and digital biomarker applications.
About the Presenter: Dr. Filipe Barata is a senior researcher at ETH Zurich and serves as the Core Director for AI & Digital Biomarker Research in the Center for Digital Health Interventions. He holds an MSc in electrical engineering and information technology, as well as a Doctor of Science in applied machine learning in healthcare, both from ETH Zurich. Dr. Barata’s research focuses on exploring the potential of mobile technologies such as wearable sensors, mobile applications, social media, and location-tracking technologies for monitoring and self-management of individuals with chronic diseases, also known as “digital biomarkers” in the relevant literature.
