About the Presentation: Despite the abundance of evidence-based care approaches across health disciplines, there is still a significant gap in the translation of science to practice. Greater attention to application of implementation science across stages of clinical and implementation research can accelerate translation, build knowledge, and promote equity in implementation and sustained use of evidence-based care. In this presentation Drs. Brown and Lord will highlight the foundational mission and activities of the recently launched Dartmouth Center for Implementation Science (DCIS). The Center aims to advance the science and practice of implementation, promote the use of implementation science in research and real-world settings, and accelerate the adoption and implementation of evidence-based practices. The Center provides implementation science training and offers a range of educational resources for researchers, practitioners, and trainees. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, the Center aims to develop and test implementation strategies that are effective, feasible, and sustainable in real-world settings, understand the factors that influence implementation success, and improve health outcomes.
About the Presenters:
Jeremiah Brown, PhD
Director, DCIS
Dr. Brown is the founding Director of the Dartmouth Center for Implementation Science, established to develop an academic home at Dartmouth to accelerate implementation science trials and research. He recently founded and is launching one of the first master’s programs in implementation science. He received his MS in 2003 and PhD in 2006 from the Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences at Dartmouth. He is a tenured professor of Epidemiology with joint appointments in Biomedical Data Science, and Health Policy and Clinical Practice. He was also the recent NIH Study Section Chair of the Science for Implementation in Health and Healthcare (SIHH). Dr. Brown is funded by NHBLI, NIAID, and NIDDK with multiple concurrent R01 grants (Research Team Website). He specializes in running national implementation hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized trials including 32 medical centers nationally using team-based coaching and EHR-based clinical decision support tools. Dr. Brown has extensive expertise in implementation trials, predictive analytics using structured or unstructured EHR data for use in developing healthcare informatics predictive toolkits, clinical decision support, and clinical-facing informatics implementation.
Sarah Lord, PhD
Co-Director, DCIS
Dr. Lord is Co-Director of DCIS and Director of the Dissemination and Implementation Core of the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health (CTBH). She is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry with joint appointments in Biomedical Data Science and Pediatrics. Her research focuses on development, evaluation and implementation of digital therapeutic approaches for substance use and mental health care, with particular attention to technologies as implementation platforms, and identifying optimal models of care for pregnant and parenting women with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. Dr. Lord has expertise in use of community engaged participatory methods and user centered design to inform intervention development and implementation strategies. Her work has been funded by NIDA, NCCIH, PCORI, NSF and the Department of Education.
