Program Overview
The web-based intervention uses tailored motivational messaging to guide women through four self-paced modules: Where Am I Now, Decisional Analysis, Goal Setting and Planning, and Overcoming Barriers. Each module is rooted in self-guided change methodology and tailored to participants unique needs based on the results of the baseline assessments. The Where Am I Now section is comprised of three sections that (1) compares each woman’s drinking to national norms (How do you measure up), (2) evaluates her contraception practices against effective standards (How to prevent pregnancy), and (3) assesses her readiness to change. In Goal Setting and Planning, participants are tasked with (1) weighing the costs and benefits of changing behaviors, (2) identifying their most important reasons for change, and (3) analyzing situations linked to heavy drinking or ineffective contraception. Participants then choose practical solutions to address these situations (Goal Setting). In Overcoming Barriers, users identify obstacles and select strategies to overcome them. The intervention guides women through each module and allows them to complete the program in one session or at their own pace.
