Implementation research has been conducted for this program.
Program Overview
QuitSmokingHelp is a WeChat-based smoking cessation intervention guided by the Transtheoretical Model (TTM). The program uses both smoking-cessation and oral health messages to reduce smoking. Intervention messages are sent every weekday between 8:00 am and 9:00 am via WeChat broadcast. Video and photo messages fall into six content categories, all aligned with TTM constructs: consciousness-raising, self-efficacy, helping relationships, coping skills, stimulus control, and oral health awareness. These messages are either focused on smoking cessation or oral health. Every Friday night, the interventionist hosts a text-only discussion session through the “QuitSmokingHelp” account, based on the week’s content and lasting about 30 minutes. Participants can ask smoking-related questions and receive timely answers. They can also contact the interventionist with smoking-related questions outside of the group discussion until the 4-week follow-up, with responses provided within 24 hours.
