Program Overview
LDC is a Spanish-language, smoking cessation program culturally adapted from the Forever Free®: Stop Smoking for Good (SSFG) intervention. Users receive a series of printed or digital self-help materials, including 10 booklets, 9 single-sheet social support pamphlets, distributed on a monthly basis, and one additional booklet specifically designed for family and friends. The LDC materials were developed through a systematic transcreation and translation process. This process included formative research with bilingual Hispanic/Latinx smokers, focus groups to identify culturally relevant smoking cessation themes, and learner verification interviews to assess attraction, comprehension, self-efficacy, cultural acceptability, and persuasion. Feedback from these steps informed iterative revisions to content, visuals, and narrative form. The pamphlets present first-person stories from former smokers to enhance perceived social support. The final intervention addresses culturally salient stressors, the role of family and friends, and attitudes toward pharmacotherapy, resulting in a tailored, narrative-based smoking cessation program that can integrate into existing telephone tobacco cessation services.
