Program Overview
imi (pronounced eye-me) is a web-based platform that aims to facilitate LGBTQ+ identity affirmation, promote cognitive and behavioral coping skills, and connect the LGBTQ+ community. The platform includes opportunities for skill practice, self-guided learning, and community engagement in four content areas: stress, queerness, stigma, and gender. These content areas are designed as comprehensive modules, called guides, tailored for sexual and gender minority youth. The gender guide allows gender expression, exploration, and affirmation. The queerness guide promotes the understanding of users’ identities as intersectional, encompassing LGBTQ+ identity and individual interpretations of their own queerness. The stress guide provides information on minority stress and promotes cognitive and behavioral coping skills using activities and social support. The stigma guide explains internalized homophobia and transphobia and provides tools and support encouraging users to examine and challenge their potential internalized negative stereotypes. Four main content types are available in each guide: learning segments, activities, peer-developed content, and external resources.
