Program Overview
Balance is an online intervention that combines brief and intensive self-help approaches to support alcohol behavior change. It consists of three phases: brief intervention, active behavior change, and follow-up. Phase 1 begins with screening using an established tool, such as FAST, followed by personalized feedback comparing participants’ reported drinking habits with gender-matched national averages. Phase 2 provides the core behavior-change intervention through fifty-six online sessions, released sequentially at one session per day over eight weeks. Participants also complete daily logs of alcohol consumption and self-efficacy and can access supportive mobile text messages on demand. Phase 3 extends support beyond the intensive intervention. Over the next four weeks, participants receive six additional follow-up sessions, followed by two final sessions every fourth week. Overall, Balance integrates personalized feedback, structured online sessions, daily self-monitoring, mobile support, and extended follow-up, offering a comprehensive digital approach to supporting sustained changes in alcohol-related behavior.
