Learn about exciting recent and upcoming activities and resources from the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health (CTBH) from Dr. Lisa Marsch, CTBH Director.
As the Director of the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health (CTBH), I am pleased to share this CTBH newsletter with you, highlighting some of the exciting new directions of our group.
CTBH is a national research center designed to use science to inform the development, evaluation, and sustainable implementation of a wide array of technology-based tools for behavioral health (including substance abuse and mental health), as well as health behavior broadly (including obesity, diabetes, chronic pain, etc.).
CTBH is housed at Dartmouth College but includes affiliates across the U.S. and internationally.
CTBH’s work includes research activities in the areas of (1) digital therapeutics, (2) social media, (3) mobile sensing and (4) data analytics. And, the work spans a spectrum of research, ranging from evaluations of feasibility, acceptability, efficacy, effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and implementation of a wide array of technology-based interventions offered in diverse settings (such as health care settings, schools/colleges, criminal justice systems, and direct to consumer).
Given that the majority of the world’s population has access to mobile devices, we have an unprecedented opportunity to harness their widespread availability to offer science-based, personalized, widely accessible resources to transform health and wellness – ranging from preventative health to disease management.
In this issue of the CTBH newsletter, we are excited to share with you some of the new directions of our Center, including the addition of a new research Core at CTBH on Emerging Technologies and Data Analytics via the support of a renewal of our “Center of Excellence” grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health.
We also highlight several new directions in our research, ranging from a project that uses Artificial Intelligence to Classify Addiction Risk with Social Media Data — to a project that uses novel methods and technologies to understand mechanisms of health behavior change — to an international initiative we have launched with a wide array of partners in Latin America to scale-up access to science-based mental health care in primary care systems in Latin America via mobile health.
We look forward to a new year, with new opportunities to leverage technology to accelerate the ability of science to contribute to overall population health and healthcare.
With all best wishes for 2017!
Lisa Marsch, PhD
