Gloria Guevara Alvarez, PhD, MPPA

Dr Guevara is a nutrition scientist and implementation science researcher with extensive experience working in public health, clinical settings, and across the translational research spectrum. Her research is focused on the role nutrition and diet play in disease prevention particularly among vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Most recently, she served as Principal Investigator, of a developmental evaluation for pre-implementation assessment and adaptation of a nutrition education intervention, with the aim of enhancing the likelihood of success of implementation through a diagnostic analysis of barriers and facilitators to implementation of the adoption strategy. Using qualitative data, the main adaptation is to facilitate uptake among low- resourced communities and a clinical setting in Uganda. This work will contribute to establishing a systematic approach to adaptation based on the CFIR framework for future use of the intervention in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Her areas of expertise include the intersection of poor diet, communicable and non-communicable diseases and using implementation science methodologies to adapt interventions to resource constrained settings and maximize health resources. Additionally, she collaborates with and guides researchers in systematic application of implementation science methods in the development and evaluation of biomedical research projects to accelerate public health impact.
