Elgar Fleisch is a Professor of Information and Technology Management at ETH Zurich and University of St. Gallen (HSG).  Since more than 15 years, Elgar Fleisch and his team have been aiming at understanding and designing the ongoing merge between the physical and digital world, a vision that was coined the Internet of Things (IoT). His work focuses on applications, social & economic impacts, and infrastructures of mobile and ubiquitous computing. Elgar Fleisch organizes his research in five labs that span across the disciplines computer sciences, information systems, management and psychology. All research projects are joint efforts of industry and academia; its results have been published in more than 500 scientific journals and books in various disciplines. Elgar Fleisch is a co-founder of several university spin-offs and serves as a member of multiple academic steering committees as well as management boards including Allthings Technologies Ltd., Basel; Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart;  and Mobiliar Versicherungen, Bern.

Born 1968 in Bregenz, Austria, Elgar Fleisch was trained in mechanical engineering, computer science and business administration. He received his PhD in Artificial Intelligence in 1993 and devoted his postdoc time to the “networked enterprise”. In 2002 he was appointed full professor at University of St. Gallen (HSG), and in 2004 also at ETH Zürich. Elgar Fleisch spent his sabbaticals at MIT and Dartmouth College, both in the USA.

Elgar Fleisch is a Swiss and Austrian citizen. He lives together with his wife and their four children in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
