Ching-Hua Chen, PhD, RN
Manager, Research Staff Member, Health Behavior & Decision Science, Center for Computational Health, IBM, T.J. Watson Research Center
Ching-Hua Chen leads an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, data scientists and medical informatics researchers, whose goal is to implement innovative computational approaches to studying health behavior and patient decision-making. Dr. Chen’s research aims to quantify and explain the trajectories of health behavior and patient experience through the analysis of various types of longitudinal, temporal data (e.g., from medical/health records, social platforms, wearable devices, IoT sensors). Dr. Chen has also conducted qualitative studies to understand how patients manage their own health.
Dr. Chen’s formal background is in mathematical modeling for decision making under uncertainty (PhD Operations Research, 2006, Penn State University), and includes a more recent education in nursing (BSN, 2014, University of Alabama, Birmingham).
