Alejandra Martínez is a Research Scientist at the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health (CTBH) at Dartmouth. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, where her doctoral research explored the relationships between health professionals and pregnant migrant women who use the Chile Crece Contigo Program in Santiago, Chile. Alejandra’s research focuses on patient-centered communication and health disparities, with an emphasis on migrant communities. She has expertise in qualitative research methods, systematic reviews, and prospective observational studies, as well as experience in Spanish-language translation and leading research teams. Currently, Alejandra’s work examines interpersonal communication among patients living with dementia, their caregivers, and clinicians during clinic visits in New Hampshire and New York City (VOiCES 3). She also collaborate with local communities, clinicians, and researchers to improve healthcare communication for Spanish-speaking populations in the United States. Before joining CTBH, Alejandra led several research projects in Chile, including a study on implementing a mammography decision-support tool, developing a risk communication guide during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a study on patient-centered care for women living with breast cancer.
