In the future, the use of AI chatbots in mental health treatment “could allow the expansion of cost-effective, evidence-based, high-fidelity, personalized treatments to people who would have otherwise gone without treatment,” explained the first author of the trial, Michael V. Heinz, MD, assistant professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and postdoctoral fellow at the Artificial Intelligence and Mental Health Lab at the Dartmouth College Center for Technology and Behavioral Health.
