About the Tutorial: This tutorial introduces the importance of open science practices, with a particular focus on research involving passive measures. These measures offer substantial potential and are increasingly used in psychological and biomedical research to capture individual behavior in real time. However, they also present unique methodological challenges during data collection and analysis. Researchers must make numerous decisions when working with passive measures, each of which can lead to different conclusions. This tutorial will explore these methodological challenges in depth and discuss how open science practices can help address them. We will cover key practices such as preregistration, and demonstrate how they can be effectively applied in digital phenotyping studies to enhance transparency and reproducibility in research.
About the Presenter: Dr. Anna Langener is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at Dartmouth. Her research focuses on developing deep learning models to predict symptom changes in participants diagnosed with schizophrenia. Additionally, she works on improving the use of passive measures in research. Anna earned her PhD from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
