Researchers conducted a study to test the effectiveness of a structured, evidence-based cognitive behavioral coaching (CBC) program delivered via video or telephone. Retrospective registry data from 289 patients was collected from a mental health company that provides a technology platform for companies to offer their employees behavioral healthcare. The health program offers a behavioral health benefit to companies by providing access to cognitive behavioral coaching services to employees and dependents. Participants who expressed interest in receiving help for stress reduction and/or emotional distress were eligible for the coaching program and completed up to six 45-minute sessions through video or phone with trained coaches. Outcome data, including perceived stress and well-being, was collected on an electronically secure mobile phone app. Results demonstrated that perceived stress decreased significantly over time and mental well-being increased significantly over time. 95% of participants reported being “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the program. 95% participants also said they are “likely” or “extremely likely” to recommend their coach. Overall, the CBC intervention shows promise and may lead to expanded access to emotional healthcare via video or phone modalities.
