CTBH Co-Hosts Conference on Application of Mobile Computing Technologies to Health and Wellness
CTBH collaborated with the Institute for Security, Technology, and Society at Dartmouth College and the Center for Digital Strategies at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in hosting a conference on the application of mobile health (mHealth) applications in an evolving healthcare context. An interdisciplinary team gathered at Dartmouth College for this 2-day event, with a key focus on the intersection of mHealth and behavioral health, evolving business models in mHealth, opportunities for mHealth in the developing world, and challenges in securing an mHealth infrastructure.

CTBH Director, Dr. Lisa A. Marsch, was invited to present at a Congressional Briefing, sponsored by the Friends of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in conjunction with the Congressional Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus and the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse. Dr. Marsch highlighted scientific research conducted within CTBH funded by NIDA demonstrating the promise of web- and mobile- technologies in the prevention of prescription drug misuse among children and adolescents.

This Dartmouth-led project, named Trustworthy Health and Wellness (THaW), involves an interdisciplinary research team with expertise in computer science, business, behavioral health, health policy, and healthcare information technology who will collaborate on an array of research projects to create health and wellness systems that can be trusted by individuals to protect their privacy and can be trusted by health professionals to ensure data integrity and security. This project is directed by David Kotz, PhD (Professor of Computer Science at Dartmouth and CTBH Affiliate). CTBH Director, Lisa A. Marsch, PhD, serves as Co-Principal Investigator at the Dartmouth site. Partner sites include Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan, and University of Urbana-Champaign.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in partnership with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and the National Institutes of Health, are hosting the Technology Innovations for Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders Conference to be held September 16, 2013 in Washington, D.C. CTBH’s Director, Dr. Lisa A. Marsch, will provide the keynote address at this meeting and several CTBH Affiliates and Advisory Board members will also present and participate in panel discussions, including Drs. Sarah Lord and Dror Ben-Zeev.

Researchers at the Dartmouth CTBH have received an intervention development grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to develop a mobile system for Self-Management of Schizophrenia (SOS). The study team, led by Principal Investigator Dror Ben-Zeev, PhD, will work closely with individuals with schizophrenia and mental health practitioners to develop a user-friendly mHealth resource for people with serious mental illness and cognitive impairment.
