Program Overview
SmokefreeMOM is a text message-based intervention for smoking cessation designed for pregnant individuals, informed by social cognitive theory. It delivers daily messages that provide quitting advice, behavioral tips, encouragement for quitting, social support, information about the harms of smoking to a baby, and insights from former smokers. SmokefreeMOM primarily utilizes one-way messages with some interactive features, such as surveys, to assess readiness and progress. Users can engage by texting keywords to receive tailored support, report lapses, manage cravings, reset quit dates, access informational facts, or unsubscribe. Message delivery is personalized based on the participant’s quit date and baby’s due date, with higher frequency during key periods. The program sends approximately three to six messages per day and continues for six months after the quit date and three months after the baby’s due date.
