Minda A. Gowarty, MD, is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician, who is completing a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She received her medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Boston Medical Center. Her primary research focus is optimization of tobacco use disorder treatments for vulnerable populations. Her initial interest in tobacco treatment began when she volunteered as a smoking cessation counselor at a free clinic during medical school. During residency, she applied this interest to mixed methods research on tobacco treatment delivery for patients with co-occurring substance use disorders. At CTBH, she is working with Dr. Mary Brunette to study the role of smartphone apps to improve accessibility and scalability of tobacco use disorder treatment for young adult patients with severe mental illness. In her free time, Dr. Gowarty enjoys running, hiking, and rock climbing.
